The recipes are then arranged on a continuum, with Segnit explaining how each are related to each other through a shared culinary DNA, showing how with just a tweak of an ingredient or technique, one dish leads to another. In the book Niki explores 12 basic culinary categories: Bread Cornbread, Polenta & Gnocchi Batter Roux Stock, Soup & Stew Pastry Nuts Cake & Biscuits Chocolate Sugar Custard and finally Sauce. Testing hundreds of flavour pairings required Segnit to strip recipes down to their basic formulae. Ten years in the making Lateral Cooking, grew out of experiments with flavour combinations that went into her bestselling debut. Lateral Cooking is set to do the same, a companion to her debut, focussing on method rather than flavour. Niki Segnit is author of the best-selling Flavour Thesaurus, a book that had an enormous impact on the way that many of us cook today, freeing us up to make our own decisions about pairing different flavours in our cooking. Tickets in advance, £42 per person (not including wine). We'll be serving a five course menu, based on recipes from Niki's new book and Niki will be here to talk about her cookery writing and latest tome. We've hugely excited to be hosting a Sunday lunch with the award-winning cookery writer Niki Segnit to celebrate her new book Lateral Cooking on 30th September from 12 noon.

The biopic about Jonathan Larson presents the urgency of a man on the verge of his 30s, dissatisfied with his life and yearning for success, wondering if he’ll ever do it, struggling to keep going when the years are ticking. It’s no wonder because Miranda brings to life Jonathan Larson’s story (Andrew Garfield), the genius behind RENT (1996), SUPERBIA, and TICK, TICK… BOOM! (2001) tragically died at the age of 35 of an aortic aneurysm the night before the first public preview of RENT, the musical that defined an era, launching Broadway into modernity. By playing with time shifts and breaking the fourth wall, Miranda constructs a meta-musical where everything, from the narration to the music, songs, and soundtrack, contributes to a thoughtful analysis of the artistic endeavour of writing the musicals. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-winning genius behind Hamilton, chose the screenplay by Steven Levenson to make his feature directorial debut and reflect on artistic creation, exploring what it means for artists to create and how their creativity affects the lives of those around them. What are the elements that lead to success? What sacrifices do artists undertake for their art? What kind of hardship do they endure to pursue their call? What happens behind the scenes of a Musical show? 1.75 million first printing BOMC main selection simultaneous Penguin Audio paperback sale to Signet. Red: Rose madder in Vermeers The Girl with a Wine Glass (1659-60) There is an uncomfortable chemistry between the young woman at its centre of Vermeers painting The Girl with a Wine Glass and. The book is a phantasmagorical roller-coaster ride, peopled by a broad array of indelibly characterized men and women and fueled by an air of danger that is immediate and overwhelming. The story of Rose's joyous growth from tortured wife (her persecution gruesomely but realistically portrayed) to independent woman alternates with the terrifying details of her husband's deliberate pursuit to create unflagging tension. Crowded with character and incident, the novel builds to a nearly apocalyptic conclusion that combines the best of King's long novels-the breadth of vision of The Stand, for example-with the focused plot and careful psychological portraiture of Dolores Claiborne. At the center of the action is heroine Rose McClendon, a battered wife who starts life anew by leaving her police officer husband, a consummately cruel man depicted by King as a paragon of evil. Relentlessly paced and brilliantly orchestrated, this cat-and-mouse game of a novel is one of King's most engrossing and topical horror stories.
